 Clothing and Textiles Strategy/CTFF and Spring Queen

 

BACKGROUND

  • Clothing and textile industry under severe pressure
  • Cheap & illegal imports cause large-scale job losses
  • Proudly South African partner with SACTWU (member of COSATU) to help retain jobs and prevent job losses in this industry – support buy local, through CTFF & Spring Queen
  • Share strategic objectives - quality, protecting of jobs by promoting buy local
  • Proudly South African contributes financially to the CTFF – R500 000
  • Partnership commenced in 2005; 2006 second year, great success
 

PURPOSE

  • Ensure that job losses in the clothing and textile industry are curbed, new jobs created
  • Focus on promoting pride in local clothing, designers, brands and designs
  • Buy local – and prepare for export market, quality
  • Promote a culture of appreciation for and buying of locally produced clothing and textiles
  • Support for local designers and the entire supply chain
  • Positively influence the clothing supply chain in favour of Proudly South African brand
 

OBJECTIVE(S)

  • Greater awareness of Proudly South African clothing - increase uptake by at least 3% per annum
  • To promote Proudly South African clothing purchase by government through a consultative process and lobbying – all tiers to be reached either personally or via correspondence before end 2006
  • Influence the youth’s purchase decisions to actively seek out Proudly South African products and services
  • Increase uptake by at least 5%
  • Educate the public about the impact of their Proudly South African purchase decisions – job retention and creation – at least 10% increase
  • Create awareness that local consumption has the power to build strong clothing brands - increase by at least 3% per annum
