 Development of Proudly SA towns and cities

 

BACKGROUND

  • First discussed by the Board in 2003.
  • To strengthen the economic/growth potential of towns and cities
  • Implemented in July 2006 – Clarens in the Free State, first Proudly South African town
  • Focus on developing/enhancing Proudly South African strengths in the field of Tourism, Cultural Industries, etc (identified as key economic drivers for Asgi-SA)
  • Albertinia – during Proudly SA Week on 23 September 2006
  • Soweto, Jeffrey’s Bay, Rustenburg, Dullstroom and Thembisa to follow
 

PURPOSE

  • To strengthen the capacity of towns/cities with identified growth potential
  • To improve the economic prospects of the town/city and its citizens through optimising Proudly South African natural assets
  • To motivate member companies’ capacity to develop and implement innovative projects that will benefit everyone – socially and economically
  • I.t.o. Proudly South African’s criteria – assist in enhancing quality and competitiveness
 

OBJECTIVE(S)

  • To help the Proudly South African town/city achieve tangible/measurable economic value – financial injection, enhanced profit margins for businesses?
  • To increase employment opportunities as a direct result of the partnership – by 5%
  • Skills development – facilitate at least one course per year per town/city
