About the NCPC-SA

“The objective of the NCPC-SA is to contribute to a competitive green economy by assisting companies in reducing environmental pressures along the different stages of the value-delivery chain.”
(Ndivhuho, Raphulu, CEO: NCPC-SA)

Launched at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002, the NCPC-SA offers services to assist industry in responding to international competitive pressures for greener economies and the ensuing environmental technical barriers to trade, as well as cost and resource availability challenges. It focuses on seven priority industry sectors identified in government’s Industrial Policy Action Plan for 2010 – 2013 (IPAP2) as key to economic growth and job creation in the country, viz:

  • Agro-processing
  • Automotives
  • Chemicals and pharmaceuticals
    Fibres, textiles and clothing
    Pulp and paper
  • Hospitality and tourism
  • Metals fabrication, and capital and transport equipment.

Dedicated programmes address the RECP and related capacity needs of these sectors, as well as the commercial building sector, with a view to strengthening market access, transferring RECP technologies and services, contributing to the sustainability of industry value chains, and delivering measurable economic, environmental and social impacts.

The NCPC-SA also hosts the Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) Improvement project, which aims to contribute to the sustainable transformation of industrial energy usage practice in SA, reduce carbon-dioxide emissions and demonstrate the impact of energy management as a means of increasing profitability.

As the key environmental implementation programme of the dti, the NCPC-SA is fully funded by national Treasury. As such, the services offered by the Centre are subsidised by the dti at this stage.
